It also provides our board-certified sleep medicine physician (Dr.Clerk) with the most complete evaluation of your sleep. Everyone deserves a restful night's sleep. If an undiagnosed sleep disorder is preventing you from getting the sleep you deserve, an in-center sleep test will help determine what’s wrong and how we can help.

Before the study begins, you can watch TV or read, and when it’s time, get the best sleep possible

How Will Your In-Center Sleep Test Work?

An in-center sleep test is a non-invasive process that takes place overnight in a private, comfortable room with all the amenities and comforts of home. During an in-center sleep test, a sleep technician oversees you throughout the night, and will carefully monitor your:

  • Brainwaves

  • Oxygen saturation.

  • Leg Movements

The entire process is quick, convenient, and allows our specialists to collect a wealth of necessary data. Once you wake up, your sleep test is complete. The data we collect will be compiled and thoroughly interpreted in order to provide your physician with an accurate diagnosis

One Night Could Mean a Lifetime of Restful Sleep

If sleep apnea or another undiagnosed sleep disorder is impacting your life, an in-center sleep test can help you achieve a full night of restful sleep, as well as increase your energy, your happiness, and your health. 

An in-lab sleep study provides a board-certified sleep medicine physician with the most complete evaluation of your sleep. You will be required to stay overnight at a sleep center, hospital, or a hotel room.

An in-lab sleep study, also known as a polysomnogram, records your brain waves, heartbeats, and breathing as you sleep. It also charts your eye movements, limb movements, and oxygen in your blood. This data will help your doctor make a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.

A board-certified sleep medicine physician may recommend an in-lab sleep study to:

  • Test for sleep-related breathing disorders including sleep apnea.

  • Evaluate behaviors during sleep due to parasomnias

  • Diagnose narcolepsy or hypersomnia along with the MSLT

  • Titrate or calibrate the levels of continuous positive airway pressure in patients who receive CPAP therapy for sleep-related breathing disorders.

  • Determine why treatment for a sleep disorder is not working.

Pre Sleep Study Checklist

On the day of your in-lab sleep study, you should:

  • Try to follow your regular routine as much as possible.

  • Avoid napping

  • Eliminate the use of caffeine after lunch​

  • Close contact to skin and scalp is necessary for clear signals 

  • For Men: Provide a clean-shaven face (if Possible)

  • For Women: Remove all makeup & face creams

  • Avoid using hair sprays or gels that can interfere with the sleep recording

  • Please bring the following with you to our Sleep Laboratory

    • Loose, comfortable fitting sleepwear

    • Favorite pillow and/or blanket, if you choose

    • Toiletries; toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, deodorant, shampoo

    • Diapers/pull-ups

    • Clothes to go home in

    • Reading materials, laptop – Wi-Fi is available

  • The Sleep Lab provides sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels

  • Please be advised to:

    • Continue medications ordered by your physician/provider (no medications will be given by the Sleep Lab staff)

    • Bring all medications and respiratory equipment, if applicable

    • If you are diabetic, bring insulin and a snack

    • If you are taking sleeping pills, bring them with you and take as usual

    • Eat dinner before coming to the Sleep lab as no food is available

    • Do not consume large amounts of caffeine 8 hours before the sleep study

    • Do not take a nap during the day of the sleep study.

    • Sleep Lab closes promptly at 7 am.  All patients requiring transportation in the morning must arrange for pick-up before this time. Seating is provided in the lobby of the building for anyone requiring a later pick-up time.

    • Smoking is not permitted in the building or during the sleep study.

  • You must be accompanied by a family member/significant other (i.e. caregiver/nursing assistant/staff member of your nursing facility) who can stay with you during the study:

    • If you are under the age of 18

    • If you are significantly disabled, physically or mentally

    • If you need special assistance, for example – using the bathroom, changing urinals, overnight briefs, etc.

  • Please ask your Sleep Technologist about any problems or concerns that you may have during your study.  At your request, the technologist will consult with the Medical Director and/or Administrative Director for advice and directions.

IF YOU NEED TO RESCHEDULE OR CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT, IT IS REQUIRED THAT YOU GIVE 24 HOURS NOTICE OR YOU WILL BE CHARGED A $100 FEE
